In December, inspiring country music duo Joey + Rory got the thrilling news that they had been nominated for a Grammy in the ‘Best Country Duo / Group Performance’ category for their rendition of “If I Needed You.” The talented husband and wife duo are up against the Brothers Osborne; Charles Kelley, Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay; Little Big Town; and Blake Shelton and Ashley Monroe in the category. The nomination has helped add fuel to Joey Feek‘s fighting spirit as she copes with the last stage of her brave cancer battle.
Today, Rory Feek took to his insightful blog and revealed that daughters Heidi and Hopie, along with the duo’s loyal manager Aaron, have headed to Los Angeles to represent the musicians at the awards ceremony.
Rory was encouraged by his ailing wife to also attend, “Joey tried to talk me into going with them… many, many times. She even had a Southwest ticket purchased for me that I cancelled. I can’t leave her. I won’t. I have done many foolish things and made lots of mistakes in my life, but this isn’t going to be one of them,” earnestly explains the singer.
Instead of being surrounded by glitz and glamour, Joey and Rory will be watching the awards program with their daughter Indiana and Joey’s close family members from the comfort of her room.
“We’ll watch the presenters and performances and scan the cutaways to the audience for our daughters and our manager in the sea of people dressed-to-the-nines for the big night. And we will smile at each other and wonder how in the world we got so blessed. How we’ve come so far without going anywhere at all,” Rory Feek states. “… It’s an honor for us to just be a part of that night, it truly is.”
The 2016 Grammy Awards will broadcast live via CBS on Feb. 15th beginning at 7PM CT. Besides the awards ceremony, the Feeks have another big week ahead— the lively and beautiful Indiana Boone Feek turns 2 on Wednesday.
UPDATE:
Sadly, the duo did not receive the GRAMMYs honor— Little Big Town won for their performance of “Girl Crush.” We hope that Joey and Rory enjoyed sharing the awards program with their daughter Indiana and Joey’s close family members despite the results!
