As inspiring songbird Joey Feek approaches the end of her life, she’s been passing on precious memories and wishes to her loving family.
“More than once, I have found myself beside her bed taking notes as she shares things like when the best time to plant the garden will be this spring, how to prune the fruit trees and to make sure we still set aside a percentage of what we make as a tithe each month,” husband Rory Feek shared with People magazine.
“As Joey has had to learn to come to terms with what is happening to her body and what the future holds, it’s been important to her to share some things that she wants me and our girls to remember after she’s gone,” Rory continued.
Joey is spending the last chapter of her life where her story first began— her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana. The family left behind their farmhouse in Pottsville, Tennessee once Joey’s cancer was deemed terminal. Right now, Joey is concentrating on the lives of Rory, Heidi, Hopie, and toddler daughter Indiana after she is laid to rest on their Tennessee property.
“We are surrounded by Joey’s family here in Indiana and life is a revolving door of sisters, parents and nieces and nephews – all pouring love and time into Joey and our little family,” he says. “Though the situation and conditions that brought us here are very difficult, it has been a really beautiful time for Joey and all of us. Not hardly an hour of the day goes by without someone telling someone else that they love them. It’s hard to ask for more than that.”
Amen.
UPDATE:
In December, Joey + Rory got the thrilling news that they had been nominated for a Grammy in the ‘Best Country Duo / Group Performance’ category for their rendition of “If I Needed You.” The talented husband and wife duo are up against the Brothers Osborne; Charles Kelley, Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay; Little Big Town; and Blake Shelton and Ashley Monroe in the category.
Unable to attend the ceremony, Rory Feek revealed that daughters Heidi and Hopie, along with manager Aaron, traveled to Los Angeles to represent the musicians at the GRAMMYs. Sadly, the duo did not receive the honor— Little Big Town won for their performance of “Girl Crush.” Instead of being surrounded by glitz and glamour, Joey and Rory watched the awards program with their daughter Indiana and Joey’s close family members from the comfort of her room. We hope the couple enjoyed their night despite the results!
