A recent interview with Jo Dee Messina offered some insight into what the country singer has been facing since revealing her cancer diagnosis. More here!
In September, country singer-songwriter Jo Dee Messina announced via her official website that she is currently battling cancer. Messina, who dropped three consecutive Billboard number one hits in 1998, let her fans know that she would turn to God for strength and guidance moving forward.
“On her lowest of low days,” the message continued, “she has been able to see God’s hand at work and feel His love as she continues her walk. It is because of our Father’s love that she has been able to find the beauty in the days that could have brought her the most fear, gratitude in moments that most would call unfair, and companionship during times she might feel the loneliest.”
Although the original message did not reveal the type of cancer Messina is fighting, there was a promise of future updates. After several months of battling cancer privately, the beautiful mother of two sat down with the Way-FM Afternoon show. In the interview, the Massachusetts native revealed the questions that raced through her mind following the diagnosis— Did she still believe in God? Would she go to heaven when she died? How would God take care of her sons?
“I had to wrestle with that and say, ‘I am OK with whatever. Because you know best, Father,'” she told the show’s hosts. “I know there was a day … when it just came tumbling in,'” she says in the video posted below. “I think it was prior to surgery when insurance had lapsed. And my tithing check bounced. Yes, people, my tithing check bounced!”
Despite facing many challenges, Jo Dee Messina is not allowing cancer to stand between her faith and her relationship with God. “I know my heart loves God so much,” Messina shared. “I’m like, ‘You see my heart, You know that I love you and for those who love you you watch out for.'”
