Country music standout Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany Kerr Aldean, are expecting the birth of their first son this December. Like all expectant couples, they had to decide on what to name their little one. In an interview with Field & Stream, the popular entertainer said that this task had proven to be quite the challenge. In fact, the couple finalized their pick after debating “about 100” options.
“You know, it’s funny, we found out picking a name for our son has been tougher than we thought,” Aldean shared with People. “Names that I liked, she didn’t like and names that she liked, I didn’t like.” After much consideration, the couple decided their son will be named Memphis.
For the Georgia native, this Tennessee city name might seem a bit odd. However, he revealed that his interest in Elvis Presley helped inspire the name. After all, the King moved to Memphis when he was just 13-years-old.
“I’ve kinda been infatuated with Elvis since I was a kid, just always watching documentaries and stuff on him,” Aldean said, according to Nash Country Daily. “It had a little bit to do with that and, honestly, I just wanted him to have something that wasn’t very common. I’m sure he’s gonna meet people with the name Memphis. He won’t be the only one, but, you know, at least I think it’s unique enough where . . . it won’t be like Michael or John or, you know, Jason. And that was kinda what we were going for.”
Though it took them awhile to come up with the baby boy’s first name, his middle name was a little easier to select.
“His middle name will be Aldine, because that’s my middle name,” the singer, whose real name is Jason Aldine Williams, explained. “I want to carry that name on. It was my grandfather’s name, so it’s kind of a family name. So that’s what we’re going with.”
Aldean also shared a favorite family tradition he had growing up, which he hopes to continue with his own son.
“My dad and my grandfather used to come down and every year we had a hunting trip that was like a week long,” he told People. He realizes it was “something really special” and often looks back on those memories. Hopefully his son takes after his southern roots so they can make some hunting memories of their own!
Memphis Aldine Williams will join big half-sisters Keeley, 14, and Kendyl, 10, to make the family of four become a family of five!
