Jake Owen debuted his highly anticipated new single, “Real Life,” yesterday across all iHeartMedia Country stations and also dropped a snazzy new lyric video. He also met up with fans at a Nashville Waffle House and bought them lunch to celebrate the event! (Lucky people…)
The brand new power anthem for summer 2015 was penned by award-winning songwriters Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally, Ashley Gorley, and Josh Osborne. With “Real Life,” Owen has struck a balance between levity and honesty: real towns in the real world where “it ain’t all good, but it’s all right.”
“Everybody can put themselves in this song in one way or another,” Owen says. “And I’ve been dealing with a lot of real life circumstances lately: my father’s sickness, fatherhood, getting married. These are the things I wanted to sing about, and I know my fans can relate.”
With five #1 hits—“Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” “Beachin’,” “Anywhere with You,” “Alone with You,” and “The One That Got Away,” it’s also the perfect next step from his critically-acclaimed single, “What We Ain’t Got.” The new track is a natural progression: “‘What We Ain’t Got’ is about all the things we don’t have,” Owen says. “‘Real Life’ is about dealing with what you do.”
Fans can catch the Florida native performing “Real Life” live on Kenny Chesney’s The Big Revival Tour throughout the summer. Owen’s fifth album and follow-up to 2013’s Days of Gold is slated to be released later this year on RCA Nashville.
He recently discussed his upcoming album with Tulsa World, “I think it’s a building process from what I’ve done before in my life in the way it was made. But also, to grow, I think you have to step outside your comfort zone and do some different things. So we have some different stuff on this record this time around, but we have some of the stuff that’s worked.”
We can’t wait to hear the results.
