Oklahoma songbird, Reba McEntire, entered the world on this day in 1955!

Named after her maternal grandmother, Reba Nell McEntire was born March 28, 1955, in McAlester, Oklahoma. After performing the national anthem at the National Rodeo in Oklahoma City, impressed country artist Red Steagall helped McEntire launch her legendary music career in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1975, the young female singer signed a recording contract with Mercury Records. The rest is truly history.

Can you say birthday week? 🙂

McEntire currently holds the record for the most Academy of Country Music ‘Top Female Vocalist’ Awards at seven, and American Music Awards for ‘Favorite Country Female Artist’ at twelve. In 2013, singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert tied McEntire to win Female Vocalist four years in a row. McEntire is also the only female country music to have solo number-one hits across four decades.

What a special person and remarkable entertainer! To celebrate Reba’s birthday, let’s enjoy a classic music video from the star— “Fancy.”
