Garth Brooks Causes: Helping Kids Learn to Work Together Through Sports

Garth Brooks stopped by the Pegula Ice Arena to visit and mentor children.

Garth Brooks causes and charity are always important to the country music star.  Garth Brooks is well known for his charitable efforts. For such a busy man, he finds time so often to help mentor and guide children in need.

Recently, he spent the better part of a morning being batted across the floor of the Pegula Ice Arena, where Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Floor Hockey ProClinic invited 60 community children to come out and play.

Each of the young athletes was affiliated with the Centre County Youth Service Bureau and the YMCA of Centre County and were brought together with the hope that they would form bonds as both teammates and friends — and catch a glimpse of Garth Brooks.

“Sports creates bonds and friendships that last a lifetime,” Brooks said.

Brooks had two shows that Saturday evening at the Bryce Jordan Center, however he spent the day watching as volunteers from the Penn State men’s and women’s hockey teams led the children through stick handling drills.

Brooks then encouraged the kids as they performed sprints and various drills by waiting for them at the finish line and cheering them on.

“We were very excited to do this,” Andrea Boyles, CEO of the Youth Service Bureau, said.

About 35 children from the bureau came to the arena on Saturday.

All of the children were hoping to get a glimpse of the iconic country music legend and they got their chance when Brooks brought his young guests together for a mid-clinic huddle. Brooks emphasized the value of having teammates both on the rink and in life.

“You can do some great things but you’re never going to be able to do them alone, life on this earth is nothing without relationships,” Brooks said.

Brooks is also famous for talking about his relationship with wife Trisha Yearwood and his daughters from his former marriage. Obviously, Garth Brooks practices what he preaches!
