Brooks will have to beat reigning Entertainer of the Year for both the CMAs and the ACMs Luke Bryan. Brooks has seen much success with his world tour and has been selling out arenas and adding shows along the way to accommodate all the fans that want to see him. Brooks brings something to the table that Bryan can’t compete with: nostalgia.

The “Friends in Low Places” singer took a break from performing in 2001 to raise is three daughters Taylor, August and Allie.

Brooks stayed mostly out of the spotlight for the next several years. From 2009 to 2012, he took a residency at the Wynn Las Vegas, performing select shows and flying back and forth on a private jet in order to still spend most of his time at home. Brooks also performed nine sold-out shows in Nashville in 2010, with proceeds benefiting recovery efforts after the devastating flood in the city earlier in the year.

In 2014 Brooks announced the he was re-emerging to the world of music full time, and he did so with a brand-new album (Man Against Machine) and a massive tour. Soon Brooks was shattering his old attendance records, along with stadium attendance records, and it was clear that he had the full support of multiple generations of fans.

Alongside Brooks is his wife Trisha Yearwood, who joined him on the tour. The two also make sure to put many hours into charitable works when they are in town, often making appearances at kid’s sports camps and other organizations that Brooks and Yearwood support before their stadium performances.

Brooks is currently on tour in Canada where he continues to draw a massive audience, with no plans of stopping anytime soon.

The ACM Awards will be broadcast LIVE from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 8:00 PM – 11:00PM ET/delayed PT on CBS.
