His legend lives on. Watch these timeless videos.

A year ago Monday, Johnny Gimble, one of the most famous fiddle players of all time, passed away at the old age of 88 in his home of Marble Falls, Texas.

The legendary fiddle player played for the infamous Bob Wills who pioneered the genre of Texas Swing. He also played on countless recordings and for some of the biggest names today like Carrie Underwood, Merle Haggard, and Vince Gill.

Here he is playing with Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys way back in 1948.

He also fronted his own western swing band. Check him out playing on Austin City Limits back in 1980, below.

I’m a fiddle player myself and I grew up playing western swing. I’ve looked up to Johnny Gimble since I was five years old and I am proud to call him one of my biggest influences.

Let’s take a moment to remember this great man and all the music he has provided us with.
