As many country stars know, life on the road can be tough. Juggling traveling, rehearsals, and performances can be a daunting task. Many people probably wonder how they have time to eat right or work out to maintain their healthy figures! Well, country superstars Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini rely on trainer Erin Oprea for dietary and fitness needs. She trains celebrities, but she can train you, too, with these tips and tricks for anyone!
While Oprea was born in Sacramento, she was raised in San Diego and Nashville. She played soccer and had a desire to help people pursue a healthy lifestyle. By the age of 18, she received her first certification as a personal trainer.
Oprea became a U.S. Marine at the age of 20, embracing the physical challenges that came with that line of work where she served for nine years. On top of that, she made history for leading the first female platoon attached to the infantry in a war zone.
After her time with the troops, she became more aware of the importance of health and decided to pursue fitness goals for herself and for others. When training her clients according to their lifestyles, she tends to use a lot of the tips that she incorporates into her own life. The goal is to build athleticism and strength both physically and mentally.
The trainer improves the fitness of her clients through her simple routine that anyone can do! But it does take some determination to stick with it. The celebrities she trains are a perfect example of the results that her routine can provide.
“Eat clean to get lean. Work out to get healthy. I really believe that those are the best ways to get health and stay healthy for your whole life,” Oprea said, according to Sounds Like Nashville. “I say it all the time. I live it. And I encourage all of my friends and family to live it as well.”
Oprea trains an abundance of stars, but quite a few country artists make the list. Just look at Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Lauren Alaina and Jennifer Nettles.
“One of the best parts of sharing my passion for health and fitness with others is hearing their successes,” Oprea continued. “I love hearing that they feel stronger, that their health is better and that they are getting closer to their goals. That is super exciting for me!”
She also suggests these five helpful tips to get on a path to wellness:
1) Cut out carbs after 4 p.m.
2) Limit alcohol intake. Oprea enjoys a glass of wine here and there, but makes sure to not overindulge. She said that alcohol is empty calories, and the drinks often add up quickly. Her suggestion is to drink at least one glass of water between every alcoholic drink.
3) MOVE! Even if you don’t like to run, a good walk is good for your health. Oprea recommends making it a goal to walk 10,000 steps each day, and perhaps spread out that movement over the whole day.
4) Read labels to limit sugar and salt. While you need sugar and salt for your health, you only need a certain amount of them. Most products have hidden amounts of added sugar and added salt, so you eat more of it than you think.
5) Hydrate. Since our bodies are made mostly of water, they need a lot of it to function properly. Oprea advises friends and clients to drink half of their body weight in ounces of water every day!
