The Eric Church Why Not Me Lyrics and song were released in 2017. Country music star Eric Church penned “Why Not Me” as a tribute to those killed and injured during the Las Vegas mass shooting which took place during the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Sunday, October 1st.
The North Carolina native had performed his headlining set at the jam-packed festival on Friday, September 29th. The emotional star debuted “Why Not Me” during his Grand Ole Opry performance last Wednesday and explained that the song was inspired by concertgoer Sonny Melton, who died shielding his wife from gunfire.
“That night, something broke in me, on Sunday when that happened. And the only way I’ve ever fixed anything that’s been broken in me is with music. So I wrote a song,” Eric shared with the Opry audience before debuting the tune.
