On May 3, 1977, country music phenom Kenneth Eric Church was born in Granite Falls, North Carolina to Ken and Rita Church. Instead of following his father into running a furniture upholstery company, the budding musician graduated from Appalachian State University with a marketing degree and headed to Nashville in 2001 to pursue his dreams of country music stardom.
With financial backing from his father, Church made waves in Nashville as a songwriter and was signed to Capitol Nashville in 2005. Since getting his big break, the star has turned out six studio albums: Sinners Like Me, Carolina, Chief, Caught in the Act, The Outsiders, and Mr. Misunderstood.
In honor of the Chief’s birthday, let’s enjoy five of his most poplar music videos below!
1) “Smoke A Little Smoke”
Turn the quiet up, turn the noise down
Let this ol’ world just spin around
I wanna feel it swing, wanna feel it sway
And put some feel good in my soul
Drink a little drink, smoke a little smoke
2) “Springsteen”
When I think about you, I think about seventeen
I think about my old jeep
I think about the stars in the sky
Funny how a melody sounds like a memory
Like the soundtrack to a July Saturday night, Springsteen
3) “Drink In My Hand”
To fill it up, or throw it down
I got a forty hour week worth of trouble to drown
No need to complicate it, I’m a simple man
All you got to do is put a drink in my hand
4) “Record Year”
Since you turned the tables on me
I’ve been steady and learnin’ lonely
Keepin’ this turntable spinnin’
Everything from Jones to Jennings
Slowly plannin’ my survival
In a three foot stack of vinyl
Since you had to walk on outta here
I’ve been havin’ a record year
5) “Talladega”
To Talladega, boys raised up,
Whiskey in your glass, here’s to turning up,
Slowing down and cars that go real fast,
We were laughing and living, drinking and wishing,
And thinking as that checkered flag was waving,
Sure would like to stay in
Talladega
Happy birthday, Eric. Share this with other fans of this star!
