Country music icon Dolly Parton is teaming up with Netflix and Warner Bros. Television for a series of made-for-TV films based on her music. Each part of the upcoming project will focus on a different song and Parton herself will also appear in select episodes.
“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music. I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix,” Parton shared in a press release. “We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations.”
Watch for the installments to hit the streaming service sometime in 2019. As fans know, the Tennessee native previously joined forces with Warner Bros. Televison for NBC’s Coat of Many Colors (2015) and Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love (2016). Both TV movies proved to be a big hit with audiences, pulling in 13 million and 11 million viewers respectively.
The more Dolly-backed content of our televisions, the better. Please, please let one of the episodes bring 1974’s “Jolene” to life…
“Jolene” Lyrics
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene
He talks about you in his sleep
There’s nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, Jolene
And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don’t know what he means to me, Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can
You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He’s the only one for me, Jolene
I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don’t take him even though you can
Jolene, Jolene
