Dierks Bentley “Different for Girls” Video and Lyrics

"Different For Girls" is a track from Dierks Bentley's new album "Black" and features the singer Elle King.

Black, the forthcoming album from Dierks Bentley, is creating a lot of buzz in the country music world. Most recently all the excitement is about the new single from the project titled “Different For Girls”.

The track features pop singer Elle King and the painful subject matter of how men and women deal with love and loss differently.

“There is a real honesty in these lyrics, and I haven’t heard a song written this way before. The differences in how guys and girls deal with a broken heart is really interesting material to me,” shared Bentley.

“Having two daughters certainly has changed the way I see the world and what they have ahead. What I love about Elle being on this record, besides her uniquely powerful but vulnerable voice, is that she’s a total badass. Having her perspective really helps tell the complete story.”

There have been some question as to why Bentley didn’t team up with a female country singer on the track, however after hearing King on the song it’s obvious she was the correct choice.

“When I got the call that Dierks wanted me to sing with him I was very honored, but I get a little shy when I’m asked to sing other people’s songs – let alone a duet with one of the biggest Country stars in the world,” added King.

“Our voices blended really well together. Since I often write from the male perspective, I was really excited to be a part of someone else’s story that is jumping outside of the norm for a relationship song. The lyrics are really smart and I love that he is bringing a lot of attitude to modern country music.”

Tune-in to see Bentley perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tonight (5/26) and on the Plaza for TODAY’s Summer Concert Series tomorrow morning (5/27).

Here are the lyrics for “Different for Girls”:

She don’t throw any t-shirt on and walk to a bar
She don’t text her friends and say, “I gotta get laid tonight.”
She don’t say, “It’s okay, I never loved him anyway.”
She don’t scroll through her phone just looking for a Band-Aid

[Both:]
It’s different for girls when their hearts get broke
They can’t tape it back together with a whiskey and coke
They don’t take someone home and act like it’s nothing
They can’t just switch it off every time they feel something
A guy gets drunk with his friends and he might hook up
Fast forward through the pain, pushing back when the tears come on
But it’s different for girls

[Elle King (Both):]
She don’t sleep all day and leave the house a wreck
She don’t have the luxury to let herself go
(She won’t call just to curse from a wall, she can push
When the going gets tough, yeah, the guys they can just act tough)

[Dierks Bentley:]
It’s different for girls
Nobody said it was fair
When love disappears, they can’t pretend it was never there

[Both:]
A guy gets drunk with his friends and he might hook up
Fast forward through the pain, pushing back when the tears come on
When the going gets tough, yeah, the guys they can just act tough
So tough
It’s different for girls
It’s different for girls
