Country star and pilot Dierks Bentley has been selected for a great honor in Music City--- the chance to serve on the Nashville Airport Authority Board.
Fans of Dierks Bentley know him for his incredible country music hit songs, rugged good looks, goofy sense of humor, and highly entertaining live performances…and now you can add something that is completely unrelated to music to that list!
A fun fact about Bentley that some fans do not know is that he is an experienced pilot and has flown into “hundreds” of major airports all over the globe.
Because of his aviation experience and incredible stature in the Nashville community, Nashville mayor Megan Barry has nominated the “Black” singer to the Nashville Airport Authority Board.
“As a leader in the Nashville music industry and as a pilot himself, Dierks brings a unique perspective to the board of the MNAA having flown into hundreds of airports worldwide. He will lend an important voice to the Airport Authority which will be managing the $1.2 billion capital investment in the MNAA facilities, while working to make our airport a true international hub for commerce and tourism,” Barry said in a statement to The USA TODAY Network—Tennessee.
While Bentley isn’t looking to change careers, if he is elected to the board he will have to dedicate some serious volunteer hours to the issues the board attends to such as the $1.2 billion overhaul the Nashville International Airport is planning to implement.
CEO Rob Wigington says the project will include new parking, more security lines, larger baggage claim and ticketing areas, expanded concourse space and a first-of-its-kind hotel.
“I am honored for the opportunity to serve on the Airport Authority board,” Bentley said. “I love Nashville and I love aviation. There are many big changes happening in our city right now as it continues to grow so rapidly. I am very excited to get a chance to be involved in facilitating and managing that growth as it pertains to our airports and aviation services.”
The Nashville metro council will vote next month on whether Bentley will fill the spot left by the expired term of Rod Essig, the mayor’s office confirmed.
