Cole Swindell's hit song "You Should Be Here" got a new meaning after the horrific October 1st Las Vegas mass shooting. Learn how Cole is reaching out to one family in particular...

Country music singer-songwriter Cole Swindell‘s hit “You Should Be Here” serves as a heartfelt tribute to his father who passed away in 2013. After the Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting in Las Vegas, Cole admits that this song now has an even bigger and deeper meaning.

One of the victims was aspiring musician Brennan Stewart. Like all in attendance at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, Brennan was a big fan of country music. Brennan’s passion for music lead him to make a cover of “You Should Be Here,” which his grieving parents shared after his death and his rendition quickly went viral.

This cover video was watched by Cole and after seeing it he made a decision to visit Brennan’s family when he goes to Las Vegas for an upcoming show. The visit will be one filled with many emotions. Everyone in that room has lost someone and that song holds a special meaning to both Cole and Brennan’s family.

“It’s about being able to help people out when they need it, whether it’s with music or not,” explained to multiple media outlets. “To know that a guy covered my song, was a fan of not just my music, but every country artist, it’s an honor to know I’m going to get to sing that song and think about him for a long time.”

“There’s so many that we’ve lost … and to have that song that I wrote about losing my dad … knowing that now, all these people are feeling those same feelings,” Cole continued. “That’s all I ever wanted to do was write one song that could touch somebody, help them through a tough time like country music’s always done for me, and I think that’s why that’s song’s so special to me, always will be. Writing that song has helped me just as much as it has anybody else — that’s the beauty of music.”

“You Should Be Here” Lyrics

It’s perfect outside its like God let me dial up the weather
Got the whole crew here, I ain’t seen some of them in forever
It’s one of those never forget it, better stop and take it in kinda scenes
Everything’s just right yeah except for one thing

You should be here, standing with your arm around me here
Cutting up, cracking a cold beer
Saying cheers, hey y’all it’s sure been a good year
It’s one of those moments, that’s got your name written all over it
And you know that if I had just one wish it’d
Be that you didn’t have to miss this
You should be here
You’d be taking way too many pictures on your phone
Showing them off to everybody that you know back home
And even some you don’t yeah
They say now you’re in a better place
And I would be too if I could see your face
You should be here, standing with your arm around me here
Cutting up, cracking a cold beer
Saying cheers, hey y’all it’s sure been a good year
It’s one of those moments, that’s got your name written all over it
And you know that if I had just one wish
It’d be that you didn’t have to miss this
Aw you should be here
You’d be loving this, you’d be freaking out, you’d be smiling, yeah
I know you’d be all about what’s going on right here right now
God I wish somehow you could be here
Oh you should be here
Yeah this is one of those moments that’s got your name written all over it
And you know that if I have just one wish it’d be that you didn’t have to miss this
Aw you should be here
You should be here
