Country music star Chris Janson grew up in a small town called Perryville, Missouri with less than 9,000 people. So when he moved to Nashville about 14 years ago, it’s safe to say Janson experienced a bit of a culture shock. However, it was all worth it as he jump-started his career!
The path to success was not an easy one. The artist laid everything he had out onstage at downtown clubs and started working his way up to the top through writers’ rooms. As a songwriter, he co-penned songs for some big-name singers, including Tim McGraw’s “Truck Yeah” and Justin Moore’s “Off the Beaten Path.” Janson’s big break came when he self-released the song “Buy Me a Boat” in 2015.
The track’s performance was so strong that Warner Music Nashville signed him! This record deal led to his 2015 debut album, Buy Me a Boat, and his 2017 sophomore album, Everybody.
At this point in his career, Janson is now able to take up songwriting wherever and whenever he wants! The “Drunk Girl” singer recently shared with American Country Countdown that he used to enjoy writing songs in the heart of Nashville, but now he’s enjoying the ability to pen new tunes from the comfort of his own home.
“I spent so many miles driving to everybody else’s place to write because that’s just what you’ve gotta do when you’re coming up,” Janson explained. “But once I was fortunate enough to have a couple of established hits of my own as a songwriter and as an artist, people started coming to me, which was nice.”
Watch Jason and his fellow collaborators discuss their latest hit on his back porch below!
He’s thankful that he has reached this level of success and has more say in where he spends his time.
“Once they come, then they just are like ‘Oh my God — I don’t ever want to write anywhere else,’ so my back porch has been graced by the biggest and the best songwriters in this whole business,” Janson shared.
We look forward to hearing more music that comes from these writing sessions on Janson’s property!
