No one can argue with the claims to talent and success that the country music trio Lady Antebellum has, but even more impressive is their devotion to their families.
Between band members Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood, and Charles Kelley there are six “baby antebellums”, can we please see THAT band’s show, how cute! In case that baby band does get formed you might as well get to know the members: Lillie Renee Haywood and Cash Haywood (from Dave Haywood), Betsy Mack, Emory JoAnn Tyrrel, Eisele Tyrrell (from Hillary Scott), and Ward Kelley (from Charles Kelley).
Obviously the lives of Lady A are very full and it takes careful planning to make sure everything is operating as it should be.
“[The biggest challenge] is balance between family and then certain opportunities that come up that sometimes you have to say no to because you’ve gotta take time to have family time and kind of reset the compass, you know?,” said Charles Kelley.
“If there’s a challenge, it’s balance, you know, and then the travel, obviously, is like—you don’t get paid to be up onstage, you get paid to travel. That’s like all it is. I would do that for free. I love being up onstage. You know, we’ve been really lucky. I mean, we really have found that balance, and it’s just kind of come naturally over the years. With each year that goes by, I think we understand each other and when to push and pull each other” Kelley continued.
Kelley has spoke in the past about the two-sides of being a country music performer and a dad and it is something most parents couldn’t wrap their heads around.
“(It’s) right before you go onstage and you’re bathing your baby and putting them down on the bed, and then you have to flip that switch and an hour later jump onstage and try to be a rock star,” Kelley explained. “That’s really weird.”
Yeah, pretty weird.
