Rising country music star Caylee Hammack’s “Family Tree” is the most-added debut song by a female artist upon impact at Country radio in over three years! Hammack effortlessly brings quirky autobiographical lyrics to life with her ferociously fun debut video directed by Dano Cerny (Elle King, The Chainsmokers, The Roots).
Weaving together spunky imagery from her small-town South Georgia upbringing and personal tokens from her storied past, the singer-songwriter chronicles her real-life journey with the people who shaped her, inviting fans to feel like they’ve known the fiery newcomer and her ‘family tree’ for a lifetime. She will hit the road on Miranda Lambert’s upcoming Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour 2019 in September.
At just 19-years-old, Caylee got a phone call out of the blue from country music star Luke Bryan, who’d heard her music and urged her to leave small-town Georgia behind. You don’t argue with advice like that, so she threw her clothes in some trash bags and headed to Nashville. So after proving herself in Music City’s Lower Broadway bars by covering everyone from Miranda Lambert to Tom Petty, she started getting noticed. Now, with songs like her single, “Family Tree,” and “Just Friends,” she’s really getting noticed. VEVO recently invited her in for some stripped-down performances of a couple of her songs, including “Family Tree.” Check it out below!
“Family Tree” Lyrics
Sister smoked all the camels in the county last week
She cleaned out the 7-Eleven, sneaking in, smelling like nicotine
Mama’s burning chicken for the tupperware party tonight
And daddy’s asleep in his chair the
TV’s blaring the stats for halftime
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
Real life can get real funny
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
We got more love than we got money
Some swing a little higher
Some’ll just hang low
A few of us are on fire to get out
and some just wanna stay home
But it don’t matter
Cause the roots run deep
Ain’t nothing gonna shake our
Family Tree
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
Grandma sold her Maytag dryer to post my uncle’s bail
He’ll be hanging her laundry til there’s a snow storm in Hell
Me and my cousins like to take a Sunday drive
Roll one up before pot-luck lunch and get high school high
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
Real life can get real funny
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
We got more love than we got money
Some swing a little higher
Some’ll just hang low
A few of us are on fire to get out
and some just wanna stay home
But it don’t matter
Cause the roots run deep
Ain’t nothing gonna shake our
Family Tree
Ain’t nothing gonna shake our
Family Tree
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
Some of us got problems but everybody’s alright
Some of us got big plans and some are just planning on gettin’ by
Some of us got problems but they love us anyway
Through thick and thin, hell we’re still kin at the end of the day
Some swing a little higher
Some’ll just hang low
A few of us are on fire to get out
and some just wanna stay home
But it don’t matter
Cause the roots run deep
Ain’t nothing gonna shake our
Family Tree
Ain’t nothing gonna shake our
Family Tree
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
life can get real funny
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
We got more love than we got money
Ain’ t nothing gonna shake our Family Tree
Whoa, ohh, oh, oh
Ain’t nothing, Ain’t nothing
Ain’t nothing Gonna shake our Family Tree
