The Carrie Underwood Softly and Tenderly cover is amazing as usual for this country superstar. The Country Music Association has finally shared the official video footage of country music superstar Carrie Underwood’s angelic performance of “Softly and Tenderly” at the 2017 CMA Awards. The star’s rendition of the familiar Christian hymn honored those the country music industry has lost over the last year. The “In Memoriam” video montage paid respects to several country music standouts, including Glen Campbell, Don Williams, Troy Gentry, and former CMA executive director Jo Walker-Meador. At the close of the touching tribute, the 58 victims of the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting were prominently featured. Understandably, Carrie became emotional and held back tears while onstage.
Watch the moving tribute below!
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me.
See, on the portals, He’s waiting and watching;
Watching for you and for me.
Come home, come home,
Ye who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling;
Calling, “O sinner, come home!”
O for the wonderful love He has promised,
Promised for you and for me.
Though we have sinned He has mercy and pardon;
Pardon for you and for me.
Come home, come home,
Ye who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling;
Calling, “O sinner, come home!”
Come home, come home,
Ye who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling;
Calling, “O sinner, come home!”
This moment was definitely one of the most memorable highlights of the entire awards ceremony. Carrie’s husband, Mike Fisher, was one of the many people deeply moved by her tribute and took to Instagram to make a touching post about his wife’s performance.
“Hard to put words to this moment last night,” Mike expressed. “I’ve seen her perform countless times but this one may be my favorite all time. So much meaning behind it and You could feel the Lords presence!”
Carrie looked and sounded like an angel. What an amazing tribute to all those who have passed away. Needless to say, 2017 has been a especially difficult year for the country music community and the nation as a whole.
Be sure to share Carrie’s captivating performance with other fans of the songstress!
