Before fame, Carrie Underwood was just a small-town girl from Oklahoma with a big dream. On the 10th anniversary of her American Idol victory on Monday, May 25th, the popular country star posted a Facebook update reflecting on that life-altering moment.

“So hard to believe it’s been 10 years!” the season four winner messaged to her 10 million-plus fans. “I’m forever grateful to American Idol for changing my life!”

After clenching her Idol title, the songbird released her first album, Some Hearts. Her work was immediately met with critical acclaim and an overwhelming positive response from fans. Hit singles like “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Before He Cheats,” rocketed Underwood’s budding career to the top and led to three Grammys in 2006.
