Carly Pearce's marriage and divorce from fellow country music artist Michael Ray turned her life upside down. More on her journey and music here...

Country music star Carly Pearce is still working through the emotions stemming from her marriage and subsequent divorce from fellow artist Michael Ray.

“It was awful. I mean, I’m being completely honest with you, that it was so embarrassing. It was so shameful,” Pearce shared with Us Weekly. “I felt like I had failed. I felt like … I would never find love again because I was divorced at so young, and [I] was just embarrassed.”

As fans can recall, Pearce and Ray got engaged in December 2018 during a vacation in Mexico. The pair married on October 6, 2019 at Drakewood Farm outside of Nashville, Tennessee. After eight months of marriage, Pearce filed for divorce in June 2020 and their spilt was finalized in September 2020.

The singer-songwriter has learned a lot over the last year and believes it is important to realize that “life doesn’t always go the way that we think it will” but that it is best to “understand and trust the journey” you’re on. “Trust God, trust the process and use each experience — whether it’s good or bad — as a place of refining you instead of defining you,” she added.

Pearce’s latest collection, 29was released on February 19th and highlights her emotional journey. Check out her performance of the title track below!

“29” Lyrics

Twenty-nine
That’s when you’re supposed to find yourself
Start drinkin’ whiskey from a higher shelf
Stop callin’ your mom for help
Twenty-nine
You start payin’ mortgage instead of rent
Should be pickin’ out a picket fence
Instead of wonderin’ where it went and wonderin’ why

But for me, twenty-nine
Is the year that I got married and divorced
I held on for dear life, but I still fell off the horse
From a Miss to a Mrs. then the other way around
The yеar I was gonna live it up
Now I’m never gonna livе it down

Twenty-nine
By now, I thought I’d have it figured out
But I’ve never felt as lost as I do now
And everybody says, “You’re only twenty-nine”
But I feel like I’m runnin’ out of time
If youth is wasted on the young, have I wasted mine?

‘Cause for me, twenty-nine
Is the year that I got married and divorced
I held on for dear life, but I still fell off the horse
From a Miss to a Mrs. then the other way around
The year I was gonna live it up
Now I’m never gonna live it down

Seems like everybody else is hangin’ on to it
But I swear to God I barely made my way through it

Oh, twenty-nine
Is the year that I got married and divorced
Yeah, I held on for dear life, but I still fell off the horse
From a Miss to a Mrs. then the other way around
The year I was gonna live it up
Hey, let’s just call it what it was
Now I’m never gonna live it down

Mmm
