Caitlyn stated about this song:
“At first listen, it sounds like a heartbreak song. I have been married for 12 years coming up, so it’s been a while since I have had a good old-fashioned heartbreak,” says the ‘Supernova’ singer. “The idea came from living in Nashville for the last 10 years and seeing how much the city is changing.”
“I was driving by downtown Nashville and saw all the cranes and skyscrapers, and that’s where the first lines of the song came from, “This ain’t a twenty-minute town no more,” reveals Caitlyn, who took her idea of change to the writers’ room.
“I started seeing the change of the city, but then also realizing the change that I have gone through in the last 10 years – I am a totally different person,” says the singer. “When I brought this concept to my co-writers, Ben West and Stephen Wilson Jr., we just talked about change, and how sometimes we come up against this thing where we have to move on or fix something or change something in our lives it can feel impossible.”
“It can feel like I just can’t – “I Can’t,” teases Caitlyn. “That’s really the guts of the song.”

Caitlyn Smith I Can’t Lyrics
This ain’t a 20-minute town no more
It don’t look the same
Red lights, bars, streets, too much concrete
I don’t recognise a thing
Ain’t a 20-minute call no more
No, you don’t call me at all
Outside, a rain falls, curtains half drawn
I’m here, talking to the walls
All the time and the whiskey I’ve wasted
That I ain’t ever getting back
And I’ve tried to find the courage just to face it
But I can’t, I can’t
And I’m tired of you feeling like a stranger
Over and over again
Oh, when everything around me keeps changing
But I can’t, I can’t, I can’t
It feels impossible to move sometimes
Like you’re still in the room
Smoke on my breath, chains on my chest
Damn, you won’t cut me loose
I just gotta get out of here (I gotta get out of here)
Get up off of the floor
Find my senses ’cause you meant it
You’re not coming back no more
All the time and the whiskey I’ve wasted
That I ain’t ever getting back
Oh, I’ve tried to find the courage just to face it
But I can’t, I can’t
And I’m tired of you feeling like a stranger
Over and over again
Oh, when everything around me keeps changing
But I can’t (I can’t), I can’t (I can’t), I can’t
Oh, I can’t, I can’t
All the time and the whiskey I’ve wasted
That I ain’t ever getting back
I’ve tried to find the courage just to face it
But I can’t
And I’m tired of you feeling like a stranger
Over and over again (over and over again)
Oh, when everything around me keeps changing
But I can’t, I can’t, I can’t
I can’t, I can’t
(As hard as I try, as hard as I try) I can’t, I can’t, I can’t
Oh (as hard as I try, as hard as I try), I can’t
(As hard as I try, as hard as I try)
