Country Fancast recently caught up with the rising star and picked his brain a bit. Check out the interview below!
Country Fancast: “You call ‘No Thanks’ a ‘true country song.’ What makes a song a true country song for you?”
Brinley Addington: “Aside from how a song feels, a country song to me is a song that paints a picture or tells a story. It takes you somewhere. ‘No Thanks’ for example paints a picture of the kind of bars I like to go to. Nothing fancy, just good places to grab a beer, hang with your friends, and if they play country music, even better.”
CF: “You said that you had to cut the song because it names drops Travis Tritt and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Were you fans of theirs growing up? Which of their songs are your favorites?”
BA: “Absolutely. Travis Tritt was a big influence on me. Some of my favorites are ‘The Whiskey Ain’t Workin,’ ‘Anymore,’ and ‘I’m Gonna Be Somebody.’ Nitty Gritty Dirt Band favorites are ‘Will The Circle Be Unbroken,’ ‘Mr. Bojangles,’ and of course, ‘Fishing In The Dark.'”
CF: “What are some of your favorite ‘hole-in-the-wall’ places in Nashville to grab a drink?”
BA: “The Villager Tavern, Santa’s Pub, and Edgefield Sports Bar.”
CF: “What are your favorite honky tonks in Nashville?”
BA: “Robert’s Western World is by far my favorite but I also love Legends Corner, Crossroads, and The Stage.”
CF: “Why did you choose to release ‘No Thanks’ as your first single?”
BA: “There was no real ‘Ah-ha!’ moment when we were picking the single. I wanted something that was all about having fun (for the listener and for me) that had a cool grove and feel to it and ‘No Thanks’ was just a no-brainer.”
CF: “What can fans expect from your forthcoming EP, Songs From A Bar?”
BA: “Expect something that makes you feel good. All we wanted out of this project was for it to be fun and reminiscent of the stuff I grew up listening to with a touch of modern feel. It’s a great set of songs to drink a beer to.”
