Country music phenom Brett Young knows first hand that fame doesn’t just appear overnight. The thirty-seven year old is experiencing the first of (undoubtedly) many peaks in his music career.
After four years in Nashville, getting used to the country music scene, the California native is fulfilling his dream and then some. The singer has successfully produced back-to-back hits with “Mercy,” “Sleep Without You,” “Like I Loved You,” and “In Case You Didn’t Know,” with the latter earning certified triple platinum status.
“I think the timing for what I’m doing is perfect,” Brett told CMT in a recent interview as he reflects on pursuing his country music dreams a little later than most. “It’s easy to look back and say, ‘What if I came to Nashville sooner? What if I had been pursuing music instead of baseball at age 22?’” the singer added.
Young went on to tell the outlet that he is grateful he didn’t head to Nashville at a young age because wouldn’t be appreciating his successes and achievements today.
Now that the artist has made a name for himself, he desires longevity in his music career and doesn’t believe he would’ve handled the attention he has received as well if it had occurred earlier.
“I don’t think country music was in a place where my music would have worked yet,” he shared. “I just think it all happens for a reason, and I also think I maybe wouldn’t have handled having a little bit of success really well in my early 20s. Whereas now, it’s all about taking it seriously and longevity and wanting to really take care of the music, the songs and the lyrics and be here for a while. Yeah, it started late for me, but I think it’s because it was supposed to,” Brett confessed.
The star is currently nominated for the 2018 CMA Awards’s New Artist Of The Year honor. Check out his most recent single, “Here Tonight” written with Lady Antebellum‘s Charles Kelley!
