Let's take a trip way back to 1965 with country music songstress Brenda Lee's beloved "Too Many Rivers." Enjoy her live performance and lyrics here.

Brenda Lee kicked off the year 1964 by recording one of her many successful songs, “Too Many Rivers.” The song was composed by Harlan Howard and released in 1965. While the single was released as a B-side, airplay actually favored “Too Many Rivers” over its A-side counterpart, “No One.” While the A-side single dropped off of the charts, “Too Many Rivers” went on to reach #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Watch a 20-year-old Brenda Lee perform “Too Many Rivers” live in 1965 below!

Too Many Rivers Lyrics

I wish I could come back to you, dear
‘Cause I know that you want me to
But too much water ‘s run under that old bridge
There’s too many rivers between me and you

There’s too many rivers to cross, dear
Too many dreams have been lost
And there’s too many long nights
That I’ve turned and tossed
There’s too many rivers to cross

Now don’t think for a moment, I blame only you
We both killed the fruit on the vine
And when you try to put love back together
There’s always a few little pieces you can’t find

Yes, there’s too many rivers to cross, dear
too many dreams that have been lost
Oh and I say there’s too many long nights
That I’ve turned and I’ve tossed
There’s too many rivers to cross
