Brenda Lee I’m Sorry was released in 1960 on her self titled album. Brenda was a 15-year-old American singer at the time and the song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in July 1960. Brenda crossed both Country Music and Pop genres of music. The song peaked at #12 on the UK Singles Chart. Watch the videos and check out the lyrics to this hit tune below.
The December 14, 1960 televised recording of “I’m Sorry” has a slightly different arrangement and tempo and can be seen and heard elsewhere on YouTube as well as at Internet Archives. As this is a synchronization, considerable pains were made to have Ms. Lee’s performance match that of her hit recording. The black & white footage has also undergone color tinting … this was after all a Christmas holiday program and, five or six years later, would almost certainly have been broadcast in color. The various green and red hues while Brenda sings help make up for this lack of visual good cheer. Perry Como hosted the show, Kraft Music Hall, and his introduction is tinted in a more neutral bluish hue.
“I’m Sorry” was written by Dub Allbritten and Ronnie Self.
I’m sorry, so sorry
That I was such a fool
I didn’t know
Love could be so cruel
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-yes
You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don’t right
The wrong that’s been done
(I’m sorry) I’m sorry
(So sorry) So sorry
Please accept my apology
But love is blind
And I was too blind to see
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-yes
You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don’t right
The wrong that’s been done
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-yes
I’m sorry, so sorry
Please accept my apology
But love was blind
And I was too blind to see
Brenda Lee I’m Sorry
