The “One Hell of an Amen” singer considers himself a very lucky man to have married the long-time love of his life, Amber Cochran.
Cochran had always been the “one that got away” because she would not put up with Gilbert’s partying ways as he rose to the top of country music.
Gilbert always loved Cochran, but timing is everything when it comes to the decision of marriage and Gilbert was never ready to tie the knot.
Referring to why he never had any serious relationships, “She (Cochran) always had a very, very, very big piece of my heart. I think that had a lot to do with why I never could give a lot of myself away.”
After several years apart, Brantley met up with Amber again on June 16, 2014.
He joked, “When she walked around the corner, it wasn’t anything I could do. All that ‘single for life’ s*** just went out the window.”
Now that he’s married Amber, Brantley says life couldn’t get any sweeter.
“She’s my best friend, too,” Brantley explains.
“There’s nothing like having somebody that loves every single bit of you, and that you love the same way, to actually, really share it with. Everything that’s mine is yours. Every bit of joy in my heart, you know, every smile on my face is yours. It’s awesome to be able to share that with somebody.”
