After announcing his upcoming Friends and Heroes 2019 Tour earlier this week, country music star Blake Shelton dropped his cover of Bobby Bare’s 1980 tune “Tequila Sheila.” The Oklahoman’s version also features an introductory vocal by Bare himself.
“One of the coolest things I’ve been able to do in my career, because I’ve been fortunate, is be a little selfish along the way and be able to record some songs that I grew up loving,” Shelton shares in a statement. “I feel like they have helped shape who I am as an artist and were what inspired me to want to be a country singer. I recorded this song and didn’t really have a plan for it – I just wanted to have my own version! I’m a huge fan, and I always felt like Bobby Bare’s personality was the kind I wanted to have as an artist too.”

Covers aren’t the only way Shelton is choosing to support the artists he admires. His Friends and Heroes 2019 Tour brings together artists that span the timeline of country music. Lauren Alaina will join Shelton on the road along with special appearances by country icons the Bellamy Brothers, John Anderson, and Trace Adkins.
