Blake Shelton often has a hard-headed persona, but he recently opened up about his "ladybug" tattoos and showed that he has a big soft spot.

Country superstar Blake Shelton‘s noticeable left forearm tattoos have become a conversation piece over the years. Shelton admits that getting his ink did not go as planned— his manly ‘deer tracks’ ended up resembling ladybugs— but he can’t blame it on the tattoo artist.

“I had been drinking on this occasion,” he shared in a past interview with Access Hollywood. “I drew him this deer track and he just went to the copier and made a copy and slapped it on there, and that’s what I drew.”

A few months later, he added two barbed wire bands to the piece in hopes of making his tattoos look more ‘masculine.’ The additional ink didn’t change his attitude towards his original body art though.

“To this moment, people still come up to me and say, ‘Man, ladybugs … that’s cool. What does that mean to you?” Shelton explained, according to People. “I probably have the crappiest tattoo – not only in country music, but maybe the world.”

Recently, Shelton got the chance to meet viral social media star Claire Ryann Crosby for a unique interview which also included a discussion about the star’s confusing tattoo. Young Claire asked if it was true that he had “ladybug” tattoos and the Oklahoman rolled up his sleeve to confirm that the tattoo is real as Crosby giggled.

Check out the full video where Claire Ryann Crosby interviews all of The Voice coaches. Towards the end, Shelton reluctantly shows off his famous ink.

Though Blake isn’t the biggest fan of his skin embellishment, girlfriend Gwen Stefani’s three sons (Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo) seem to be a fan of his look. The three boys have sported Shelton’s barbed wire and deer track ‘masterpiece’ while hanging out with the artist in the past.

When it comes to making the best out of a regrettable decisions, Blake can honestly say “I Lived It.”

“I Lived It” Lyrics

Daddy drove the wheels off a flatbed Ford
Flies found a hole in the old screen door
Granny said the dress that my sister wore
To church wasn’t long enough
Mama poured grease in a Chrisco can
Put a hundred thousand miles on a Sears box fan
Uncle Joe put tobacco on my hand where
Them yellow jackets torn me up
And I ain’t making this up
Oh, you think I’m talking crazy
In a different language you might not understand
Oh, that’s alright
That’s just the kind of life that made me who I am
Just taking my mind on a visit
Back in time ’cause I miss it
You wouldn’t know to love it like I love it
Unless you lived it
And man, I lived it
Granddaddy smoked Salems with the windows up
Drove me around in the back of that truck
We drank from the hose and spit in the cup
We all survived somehow
Them old Duke boys, they’re flattening their heels
Hollywood was fake, wrestling was real
Wouldn’t dream of spending that two dollar bill
From pushing a lawnmower around
I’d go back there right now
Oh, you think I’m talking crazy
In a different language you might not understand
Oh, that’s alright
That’s just the kind of life that made me who I am
Just taking my mind on a visit
Back in time ’cause I miss it
You wouldn’t know to love it like I love it
Unless you lived it
And man, I lived it
Oh man, I lived it
Oh, you think I’m talking crazy
In a different language you might not understand
Oh, that’s alright
That’s just the kind of life that made me who I am
Just taking my mind on a visit
Back in time ’cause I miss it
You wouldn’t know to love it like I love it
Unless you lived it
And man, I lived it
Oh man, I lived it
