For the revival of American Idol, country music star Luke Bryan will act as a judge— of course The Voice standout and Luke’s close friend, Blake Shelton, has a lot to say about his buddy’s new venture.
“ABC is proud to announce that television’s most successful and recognized music competition series will be returning in 2018. Former host, Ryan Seacrest will continue to guide the show each night along with a new panel of judges. Country-music phenomenon Luke Bryan will be accompanied by pop-singer, Katy Perry and Luke’s personal hero, Lionel Richie as they fill the judge’s seats,” the network announced.
The three musicians were a part of Good Morning America just a few days ago discussing the upcoming season of Idol. Luke proudly shared the photo below…
Bryan is beyond excited to start this new experience as a judge. He shared his excitement with his fans via an Instagram video a few days ago. The Georgia native quipped, “I can’t wait to be a part of the show and I am so excited to see all the talent out there that America has.”
Luke’s excitement prompted good friend, Blake Shelton, to voice his own opinion about the singer-songwriter’s appearance on Idol. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Shelton jokingly shared, “I think people are going to realize just how dumb he really is when they see him on national television, in an environment where there’s no script. But you’re also gonna see what a great, great, dude that guy is.” Shelton later admitted that he in fact loves Luke as if they were brothers.
According to Shelton, it took $13 million to get Luke on the show, thanks to the Oklahoman’s sage advice when it comes to judging reality singing competitions. Be sure to tune into American Idol‘s new season to catch Luke, Katy, and Lionel in action on ABC this spring!
