Did Blake Shelton Reveal Future Plans in “Gonna” Lyrics?

You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out...

After 21-weeks climbing the charts, Blake Shelton has bagged another No. 1 hit— the 20th of his career— with “Gonna.” The catchy track is the fourth single from his latest album, Bringing Back The Sunshine. As the world knows, the Oklahoma heartthrob split from Miranda Lambert in July after 4 years of marriage and is now romancing fellow The Voice judge, Gwen Stefani.

The magnetic pair confirmed their relationship after getting flirty at Adam Levine’s Halloween party. In August, Gwen revealed that she and husband Gavin Rossdale were divorcing after 13 years together. The former rock n’ roll power couple have three young sons— Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo.

It’s not unusual for art to reflect life, especially when it comes to music and that brings us to the lyrics of Blake’s current chart topper…

Love ya all night long
Till the crickets stop chirpin’
Girl I ain’t just flirting, I’m certain
I’m working on a long term plan
Gonna be your man
Gonna put a little rock steady on your hand

Notice anything? As a longtime fan of both Blake and No Doubt (Gwen’s band), I immediately picked up on an interesting little nugget— “Rock Steady” is the name of No Doubt’s fifth studio album, released in 2001. Sure, “Gonna” was penned by Luke Laird and Craig Wiseman— but I’m pretty convinced that Blake’s love life bled into their writing session. C’mon, the phrase “rock steady” is pretty darn specific when it comes to referring to an engagement.

I’m gonna just leave it at that.
