During the 2018 CMA Country Christmas special on ABC (Dec. 10), country music duo Dan + Shay totally rocked their version of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”!
“Everybody’s fallen in love with these Christmas songs over generations and generations, and traditionally, we’ve stuck pretty true to the song,” Dan Smyers told The Boot and other media outlets prior to the broadcast. “This year, we spiced it up a bit with a little bit of a different arrangement on “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.””

Wow. We need a Christmas album from them pronto! While a holiday-themed record isn’t in the works yet, Dan + Shay have expressed an interest in putting one together over the next few years.
“We’ve been spending a couple of years making our record that came out this year, and we’ve been doing all these different versions — alternate versions, acoustic versions, all these things — and I was like, ‘Let’s do a Christmas version!'” Smyers explained. “But it’s hard to find the time, you know? When you make a Christmas record, you have to kind of get started in, like, March or April to get it turned around in time.”
“I’ll Be Home For Christmas” Original Lyrics
I’ll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the lovelight gleams
I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
I’ll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the lovelight gleams
I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
“I’ll Be Home For Christmas” was written by Kim Gannon alongside Walter Kent and first recorded in 1943 by singer-actor Bing Crosby. The song was penned to honor soldiers overseas who longed to be home during the Christmas season, the tune has since gone on to become a Christmas classic.
