Following this performance, Midland has released a studio version of the cover!
“Eastbound & Down is a balls to the wall, honky tonk, fast tempo tornado of a song that was a great challenge to master and to make some tweaks to make it our own…It’s now one of our favorite songs to perform live and we can only hope that The Guitar Man [Jerry Reed] is smiling somewhere up above with approval,” Midland shares.

“The thing that keeps us sane on the road is working on new material,” says singer Mark Wystrach. “Our soundchecks are basically a daily therapy-slash-rehearsal when you have been on the road for two years straight. I’d say ‘East Bound and Down’ couldn’t have been more timely in its arrival.”
Jerry Reed’s version of the song spent 16 weeks on the U.S. country music charts reaching a peak of No. 2. Enjoy watching the Jerry Reed East Bound And Down live performance from his appearance on Pop Goes The Country in 1978.

East Bound And Down Lyrics
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’
Oh we’re gonna do what they say can’t be done
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run
Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes
Let it all hang out ’cause we got a run to make
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there’s beer in Texarcana
And we’re gonna make it no matter what it takes
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’
Oh we’re gonna do what they say can’t be done
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’
Oh we’re gonna do what they say can’t be done
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run
Ol’ Smokey’s got them ears on and he’s hot on your trail
He ain’t gonna rest ’til you’re locked up jail
So you’ve got to dodge ’em and you’ve got to duck ’em
You’ve got to keep that diesel truckin’
Just put that hammer down and give it hell
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’
Oh we’re gonna do what they say can’t be done
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there
And I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run
Watch ol’ “Bandit” run [x6]
