Country superstar Blake Shelton’s “She’s Got a Way with Words” is the second single off of the artist’s chart-topping album If I’m Honest, which dropped on May 20th. When first publicly revealed, this specific set of lyrics set off fireworks:
She put the her in hurt
She put the why in try
She put the S.O.B. in sober
She put the hang in hangover
She put the ex in sex
She put the low in blow
She put a big F.U. in my future
Yeah she’s got a way
She’s got a way with words
We already knew that Shelton’s latest musical output would be more personal and intimate due to his high-profile divorce from Miranda Lambert last July and his current red-hot romance with fellow Voice coach Gwen Stefani. Due to the nature of Blake’s last year, people have certainly been paying more attention to the content of his lyrical output.
There’s just a hint of sarcasm in this one,” he cheekily quipped to People Magazine.
The biting track was penned by songwriters Wyatt Earp, Andy Albert, and Marc Beeson. The tune takes a different spin on your standard breakup song and Shelton fully embraces its sour notes regarding love. Despite the bitter lyrics, the tune’s music video proved to be rather tame. No Miranda Lambert lookalikes present. Here is Blake announcing the new video to social media:
The nature of the song is certainly a strategic move— and having twice-divorced Shelton deliver the cutting lyrics really got fans talking. Really, it’s a genius move for all involved and will keep the spotlight fixed on the Shelton-Lambert divorce fallout.
