Country music star Thomas Rhett's “Marry Me” and "Life Changes” both hit number one on the charts. More on the story behind "Life Changes" here!

Country music star Thomas Rhett got the chance to celebrate his 10th and 11th No. 1 singles in Nashville this week. The newly 2x Platinum certified “Marry Me” was written by Thomas Rhett, Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure, and Shane McAnally and the GOLD certified “Life Changes” written by Thomas Rhett, Rhett Akins, Ashley Gorley, and Jesse Frasure.

“We just started writing verses as a little storyline of college to getting married to now,” the Georgia native shared with PEOPLE about his autobiographical tune, “Life Changes.” “When we wrote it, we were like, ‘This is never gonna make the album, ever. I’m just glad we got it out of our system.’”

When Rhett and his team of collaborators sat down to write, the star and his wife, Lauren, were working to adopt Willa Gray from Uganda and were also expecting a baby. On top of that, Thomas was also busy touring.

“It was just a chaotic time,” Thomas Rhett admitted. “I can’t remember if it was my dad [Rhett Akins] or Ashley, one of them said, ‘Dude, it’s crazy how your life has shifted so much in the last few years.”

The songwriters were able to take all of Rhett’s life experiences and create an upbeat hit song that fans have loved. “Life Changes” also inspired the title of his current tour and latest album, which debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart— marking the first country release to take the top spot last year.

Congrats to Thomas and share this news with other fans!
