Billy Ray Cyrus has added his vocals to Lil Nas X’s already viral sensation, “Old Town Road.” On Tuesday, April 9th, the “country trap” song hit No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. Five weeks ago, the tune debuted simultaneously on three Billboard charts: the Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs, and Hot Country Songs. Billboard quietly removed the song from the country chart the following week. This move sparked controversy. In response to its removal, Billy Ray Cyrus jumped in to collaborate with Lil Nas X on a remix. Despite Billboard reclassifying “Old Town Road” as rap, the song has since emerged on the Billboard’s Country Airplay chart at No. 53. Country radio has embraced the genre-blending song.
