Country music star Miranda Lambert wanted to talk about her album, not her ex-husband Blake Shelton's girlfriend Gwen Stefani. More here.
In Part 2 of country music songbird Miranda Lambert‘s fascinating interview with Hits Daily Double, the star shares why she stepped back from promoting her 2016 double album The Weight of These Wings through interviews and other publicity channels.
“I came into [manager] Marion [Kraft’s] office and said, ‘I’m not speaking to anyone until they hear this record,’” Lambert shared. “It was going to be hell, and I’d already been through hell,” she explained referring to her July 2015 divorce from fellow country music artist Blake Shelton. “It was hell putting it on paper, putting my words on paper. So I didn’t want to rehash. I’d finally gotten to a place where I wasn’t sad anymore … It would’ve set up some expectation that couldn’t be met. I was very publicly going through this thing, and there wasn’t an explanation to be given.”
Eventually, the Texan did finally agree to an interview but was instantly asked about Blake’s girlfriend Gwen Stefani instead of her latest project.
“I got on the phone for the first interview. First question was, ‘How do you feel about Gwen?’ I hung up,” she said. “I told Marion, ‘I just can’t do this.’ What was in the music was real, and I wanted people to get it from that. Take from it what they would. Then if I needed to talk, I would. But I haven’t really until now.”
After that experience, Lambert decided to stay low-key and just allow for her music to do all the talking. With so much pressure on artists to be out front and center constantly, it’s pretty incredible that the “Tin Man” singer was able to maintain some privacy during this turbulent time while also displaying so much restraint.
This ‘silent’ method worked for the singer-songwriter and The Weight of These Wings went Platinum. Enjoy the unplugged version of “Tin Man” and check out Miranda Lambert’s tour schedule” below!
