Country music superstar Eric Church has certainly accomplished a lot over his last four decades on this Earth! Learn more about him here.
Country music standout Eric Church has a big milestone to celebrate today, May 3rd,— his 40th birthday! The “Round Here Buzz” singer was born in Granite Falls, North Carolina and bought his first guitar at 13-years-old. The budding artist graduated from Appalachian State University with a marketing degree and headed to Nashville in 2001 after breaking off an engagement. His almost father-in-law tried to guide Eric into a corporate career, which he vehemently rejected as a hopeful Music City songwriter.
With financial backing from his father, Church made waves in Nashville and was signed to Capitol Nashville in 2005. Since then he’s turned out six studio albums: Sinners Like Me, Carolina, Chief, Caught in the Act, The Outsiders, and Mr. Misunderstood.
Let’s enjoy one of the songs that helped put him on the map, “Guys Like Me” from his debut album!
The popular singer-songwriter is often referred to as ‘Chief’ and also gave his third album that title, “My grandfather was chief of police for 35 years, and when I was growing up, everyone called him Chief,” Church explained to The Boot. “The guys started calling me that totally as a joke, when I started wearing a hat and sunglasses after I got my contacts. They didn’t know about my grandfather at all. It was two different things and happened very organically and very naturally.”
Aside from his booming country music career, Church’s personal life is pretty rockin’ as well. Eric has been married to wife Katherine Blasingame Church since 2008 and they are proud parents of 5-year-old Boone McCoy and 2-year-old Tennessee Hawkins.
“When you have a child, everything changes,” Church shared with Rolling Stone. “I’ve changed a lot. I suppress a lot of maybe the way I used to be. Is that dark side still probably there? Yeah. I just don’t let it come out very much. But if you mess with my kid, if you mess with my family, well, I can bring it out.”
Eric Church’s Holdin’ My Own Tour finishes up later this month, but he has announced eight additional concerts throughout the remainder of the year. He will be bringing Brothers Osborne and Ashley McBryde along as special guests in select cities on the short stint.
