South Carolina native Darius Rucker has announced the date for his eighth annual “Darius and Friends” benefit concert. The country music star made the commitment to support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital when he first visited the campus in 2008. Darius Rucker’s benefit concert for St. Jude will be held on Monday, June 5th in Nashville, Tennessee, and for the first time ever, it will take place in Ryman Auditorium!
Darius shared in a statement, “This concert is a real highlight for me every year, and I couldn’t do it without the support of my friends who turn out to perform, tell stories and make this a memorable night for the fans, who are here from around the world.”
Tickets to “Darius and Friends” go on sale through ticketmaster.com starting Friday, April 14th at 10 a.m. central time. Rucker paired with Ticketmaster to give supporters a chance to be #VerifiedFans. Those that qualify and enter by Thursday, April 13th will receive a code to ensure tickets can be bought without worrying about scalpers.
Some past friends who performed with Rucker include Luke Bryan, Randy Houser, Kenny Rogers, Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum, and Little Big Town. The lineup for this year has not been announced yet, but should be released within the next couple of weeks. Since its inception, the event has attracted a huge crowd and an overwhelming response, raising more than $800,000 so far for St. Jude.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital aims to treat and defeat childhood cancer and disease. Unlike other hospitals, the main source of funding for St. Jude comes from donations and individual contributions. Events like “Darius and Friends” help bring in funding to pay for hospital bills, travel, housing or food for families. After all, families should focus on spending time with their child and helping them through treatment.
This important cause helps patients such as Brennan who defied the odds and won his fight against leukemia with the help of St. Jude. His father, Turner, wrote a song called “Possibilities” to give others hope. With the help of Darius Rucker, who produced and recorded the song, Turner was able to share the song with others. The hospital opened more than 50 years ago and has changed the way the world treats childhood cancer. Pediatric cancer survival rates in the United States have risen from 20 to 80 percent overall. Rucker is proud to support such an outstanding hospital, and his benefit concert will help St. Jude continue saving the lives of children. Mark your calendars for the “Darius and Friends” benefit concert coming up on June 5!
