BLAKE SHELTON ADDRESSES UGLY TWITTER CONTROVERSY

Blake Shelton's past comments via Twitter have resurfaced and upset many. Read the singer's response to the firestorm here.

In a new statement released via social media, Blake Shelton addresses a series of past tweets that were deemed “homophobic,” “sexist,” and “racist” by fans and assorted media outlets over the weekend. The pre-The Voice tweets have been deleted from the singer’s Twitter account and Shelton is working to repair the damage.

The controversial Tweets included jokes about a non-English speaker being a terrorist and a ‘fantasy’ about then 16-year-old actress Dakota Fanning. Read his full explanation below.

The Twitter controversy reignited when someone brought up a handful of questionable posts dating from 2009 to 2011 that were allegedly created by Shelton.

“Can my humor at times be inappropriate and immature? Yes. Hateful? Never.” His statement continues. “That said I deeply apologize to anybody who may have been offended.”

The Oklahoma native never acknowledged if the collection of Twitter screenshots were indeed 100% accurate, but he does admit that some people may have found them offensive.

Back in 2011, Blake landed in hot water after tweeting a re-write of some Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine” lyrics that came across to the public as homophobic. After receiving backlash, the entertainer then issued an apology and attempted to provide clarification.

As fans know, Blake tweets a ton and doesn’t have much of a filter. His ‘devil-may-care’ attitude has certainly landed him in trouble before— but will also be his saving grace.
