After touring with Dierks Bentley this summer, Canaan Smith has started his "Stompin' Grounds" tour.

The first headlining tour is a huge milestone in an artist’s career. Dierks Bentley made is in 2014, Kenny Chesney in 2001, and now up and comer Canaan Smith has started his first headlining tour dubbed The Stompin’ Grounds Tour with opener Russell Dickerson.

Smith recently spent the summer building up his fan base on the road with Dierks Bentley, which was another huge event for the country music singer.

“He’s a very generous headliner, and the knowledge he’s gained over the years, he’s shared with me. He’s just an upstanding guy; he’s a good dude,” Smith said of Bentley.

“I want to treat my opening acts the same way he treated me in the future. Everybody’s on a different playing field, [but] we’re all doing what we love.”

Now, Smith is the main act and he admits to being a little nervous shouldering the responsibility for his concert-goers.

“It’s nerves and excitement, neck and neck. I’m stoked, really; it’s an honor,” Smith tells The Boot.

“We’re bringing lights for the first time; we have an hour-and-20-minute set for my fans. I’ve never had that opportunity up until this point, so I’m losing sleep over giving them an experience they’ll never forget.”

Smith’s main goal is to leave a lasting impression on his fans.

“That’s what it’s all about for me: something that they’ll remember forever,” he adds. “Learning from them and celebrating their stomping grounds … celebrating where we’re at each night and sending them away with something they won’t forget.”

Smith’s most recent single “Hole in a Bottle” is doing great on the charts and country radio. Smith has already had his first #1 with “Love You Like That”, both songs are from his debut album Bronco.
